Laptop built-in production (CIM) permits the combination of present islands of automation and the exploitation of possibilities provided by means of the applying of knowledge know-how. greater than forty key papers were assembled from the CIM-Europe's 7th annual convention held in may possibly 1991, Turin, Italy. The audio system symbolize the forefront examine in components resembling concurrent engineering, creation making plans and keep watch over, caliber administration and e.g. implementation and company reviews in employing CIM. CIM-Europe is the dissemination of ESPRIT and the convention is together backed via the CEC and organised lower than the patronage of the Ministero della Universit e della Ricerca Scientifica e Technologica and Citt di Torino. Engineers, lecturers and researchers in CIM and comparable fields will locate the booklet first-class reference fabric for present learn and event.

These communications services allows to realise message multicast services with "store and forward" mechanisms for messages addressed to applications unavailable at the moment. 6 Summary and conclusions A number of indicators suggest a steering of the manufacturing automation market towards a generalised acceptance of new concepts like "Open Systems" and "Information Technology Standards" promoted by international standardisation bodies and computer manufacturers associations/consortia such as ISO, IEEE, X/OPEN and OSF.
How do we ensure that modules operate in a harmonized way? There seem to be two possible solutions to this problem. One is to develop software which controls the operation of all modules in a CIM environment. Due to the complexity of operational integration, this centralized solution is not easy to realize. It is also rigid: changes in the configuration of the CIM environment will inevitably lead to changes in the controlling software. Also the solution doesn't work if operational integration is required with external CIM modules.
In general, these products belong to two categories. Sophisicated CASE tools for the development of manufacturing application, such as Flexis from Savoir or Artifex from Artis belong to the first one. The second one includes tool kits composed of generalised and easily configurable modules, solving problems of user interface and giving also elements of management logic, that are integrable with user applications. IBM Plantworks is an example. The two classes don't solve integrally the problem. CASE tools are usually not integrated with any Software Integration Platforms.
