We need to consider whether the organisation is financially stable, and whether it has access to funds for investment and development.

Once the SWOT has been developed it is then used as a means of evaluating the organisation’s business situation and identifying potential strategies for the future. A standard approach is: yy Identify the new business improvements made possible by the opportunities defined in the SWOT. yy Identify the business issues that may arise from the threats defined in the SWOT. yy Consider the actions required to grasp the opportunities and address the threats. yy Identify the areas of strength that will enable the organisation to carry out these actions.

Once the industry has been decided upon, the five categories are examined to identify the pressures that exist between the organisation and each of them.
