RAJASTHAN
Rajasthan is the largest state of the Republic of India in terms of area. It encompasses most of the area of the large, inhospitable Great Indian Desert (Thar Desert), which has an edge paralleling the Sutlej-Indus river valley along its border with Pakistan. The state borders Pakistan to the west, Gujarat to the southwest, Madhya Pradesh to the southeast, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to the northeast and Punjab to the north. Rajasthan covers an area of 132,150 sq mi or 342,269 km².
HISTORY
The Indus Valley Civilization, one of the world's first and oldest civilizations, was located in part of what is now Rajasthan. Kalibangan in Hanumangarh district, Rajasthan was a major provincial capital of the Indus Valley Civilization.Traditionally the Bishnoi Rajputs, Yadavs, Jats, Bhils, Gujars, Meenas and other tribes made a great contribution in building the state of Rajasthan. All these tribes suffered great difficulties to protect their culture and the land.
GEOGRAPHY
The main geographic features of Rajasthan are the Thar Desert and the Aravalli Range, which runs through the state from southwest to northeast, almost from one end to the other, for more than 850 km. Mount Abu is at the southwestern end of the range, separated from the main ranges by the West Banas River, although a series of broken ridges continues into Haryana in the direction of Delhi where it can be seen as outcrops in the form of the Raisina Hill and the ridges farther north. About three-fifths of Rajasthan lies northwest of the Aravallis, leaving two-fifths on the east and south.
JAIPUR
Jaipur pronunciation (help·info), also popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital of Rajasthan state, India. Jaipur is the former capital of the princely state of Jaipur. Founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a population of more than 2 million residents. It is also known as Paris of India.

 Jantar Mantar
It was built in 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. The huge masonry instruments were used to study the movement of constellations and stars in the sky.
 City Palace and S.M.S. Ii Museum
Situated in the heart of the old City, it occupies about one seventh of the old city area. It houses a seven storied Chandra Mahal in the centre, which affords a fine view of the gardens and the city.
 Amber fort
The Old Palace lies at the base of the Jaigarh Fort. This area was the original Amber before Man Singh I came along and went on a building spree. The early 13th century palace here is not very interesting as compared to the grand Amber Fort-palace, yet you could do with a visit. This Old Palace can be reached from the Amber Palace too – there's a stone path leading from the Chand Pol to these ruins at the base of the hill.
 Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal is located in the Tripolia Bazaar to the west of GPO. Built to let the ladies of royal harem watch the royal possessions, Hawa Mahal is not a palace as the name suggests. Hawa Mahal is the part of the east wall of the City Palace complex. Most well known of Jaipur's buildings, you can have the best views of this great building from the street outside.
REACHING JAIPUR
By Air:   Jaipur Airport is located near Sanganer at a distance of 13 kms from the city of Jaipur. Many domestic airlines connect the city to all the major cities of India including Udaipur and Jodhpur as well. Flights for Delhi and Mumbai run on a regular basis. The airport has been granted the status of an international airport and connects to the foreign cities like Sharjaha and Muscat too.
By Rail:  Jaipur Railway Station is a central main station of the state of Rajasthan. The vast rail track of Indian Railways connects Jaipur station with all other cities of India. There are numerous trains which run on a regular basis to and from Jaipur.
By Road:  Jaipur is well connected by road to major cities in India. Excellent road network serves people to enjoy a comfortable journey to and from Jaipur. This mode of traveling is quite easy and comparatively cheap. Regular bus services from nearby cities connect Jaipur to the other cities. Deluxe Buses, AC coaches and Government buses are available for the convenience of the passengers.
BIKANER
Bikaner is a District in the northwest of the state of Rajasthan in northern India. The city is the administrative headquarters of Bikaner District and Bikaner division. It was formerly the capital of the princely state of Bikaner. The city was founded by Rao Bika in 1486 and from its small origins it has developed into the fourth largest city in Rajasthan. Just like Jaipur, Bikaner is called the Green City.

 Junagarh Fort
One of the most formidable forts of India, Junagarh Fort has never been conquered by its enemies. Built in 1593 AD by Raja Rai Singh, the most able and trusted generals of Akbar, Junagarh Fort is constructed on the plains, contrary to other forts of Rajasthan, normally built on hilltops. A massive structure encircled by a moat, it houses many beautiful palaces like Anup Mahal, Ganga Niwas and Rang Mahal or palace of pleasure.
 Lalgarh Palace
It was built between 1902-1926 by Maharaja Ganga Singh, Lalgarh Palace is a beautiful red palace, displaying a perfect blend of Rajput and European architectural style. Designed by Sir Swinton Jacob, a British architect, the palace has several grand halls, lounges, cupolas and pavilions with overhanging balconies and latticework.
REACHING BIKANER
By Rail:  Bikaner by train is very well connected to major Indian cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Delhi, Jodhpur and Ahmedabad through Indian railways. Some of the most important trains that provide transportation service to Bikaner are Kalka Express that connects the city with Jodhpur, Bikaner Express, Chetak Express and Bikaner Mail that connect it with Delhi.
By Air:  One can also use airways to reach Bikaner. The nearest airport is the one at Jodhpur which is situated 235 kilometers away from the Pink City. The cities with which Bikaner is connected through air are Jaipur, Delhi and other major Indian cities.
By Road:  The Pink City of Bikaner has very well developed network of road that connects with major cities nearby including Jaipur and Delhi. One can avail buses or private taxis that provide such transportation to Bikaner.
JAISALMER
Jaisalmer nicknamed "The Golden City", is a town in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, crowned by a fort, which contains the palace and several ornate Jain temples. Many of the houses and temples are finely sculptured. It lies in the heart of the Thar Desert and has a population of about 78,000. It is the administrative headquarters of Jaisalmer District.

 Jaisalmer Fort
The 12th century Jaisalmer Fort has been regarded as one of the most magnificent and invincible forts in Rajasthan. Built over the Trikuta hill, Jaisalmer Fort is 250 ft tall structure surrounded by a 30 ft high sandstone wall with 99 bastions. The Fort houses the famous Jain Temple, a place worth visiting on your Jaisalmer tour.
 Jaisalmer Havelis
Built by the wealthy merchants, the havelis (mansions) of Jaisalmer are famous for their exclusive cutwork, yellow and red stone treatment and the bracket-shaped decoration of peacocks. The splendid havelis like the Patwon-ki-Haveli, Salim-Singh-ki-Haveli and Nathmalji ki haveli are major tourist attractions in Jaisalmer.
 Gadsisar Sagar Tank
Gadsisar Sagar Tank is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Jaisalmer. A famous picnic spot, the Tank attracts hundreds of migratory birds during the winter season.
REACHING JAISALMER
By Air:  Jaisalmer has an airport, which is located 5km from the city center and is well linked by air with New Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur. However it is managed by the Indian Air Force and is operational only from September to March. So Jodhpur airport at a distance of about 285 km is the better option.
By Rail:  Jaisalmer is well connected by rail with Jodhpur as well as other major cities of India including Agra, Jaipur, New Delhi and Mumbai.
By Road:  Jaisalmer has a good network of roads and is well connected to other cities of Rajasthan including Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner and major cities of India.

JODHPUR
Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name, it was the capital of the kingdom known as Marwar. Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar desert
The city is known as the Sun City for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all year. It is also referred to as the Blue City due to the indigo tinge of the whitewashed houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur lies near the geographic centre of Rajasthan state, which makes it a convenient base for travel in a region much frequented by tourists.  Mehrangarh Fort
One of the finest and most formidable forts in India, the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort is located on a steep 125 m high hillock, graciously overlooking the city. Spread over an area of 5 sq. km, the Fort has seven splendid gates to enter into. Standing as a mute spectator to the splendors of an era replete with chivalry, glory and grandeur, the Mehrangarh Fort houses a number of beautiful palaces like the Phool Mahal, the Moti Mahal and the Sheesh Mahal. The Fort also houses a Museum.
 Umaid Bhawan Palace
Located at 2 km southeast of the Jodhpur city at the top of a hill, Umaid Bhawan Palace is another major landmark of Jodhpur. Commissioned by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1929 as a famine relief scheme, the impressive rose sandstone and marble palace was built between 1923 and 1940, providing employment for 3,000 famine-stricken people. Now a famous hotel, the Palace also houses a Museum.
 Balsamand Lake and Palace
Located at only 7 km from Jodhpur, the beautiful Balsamand Palace is the erstwhile summer palace on the embankments of a serene and calm Balsamand Lake.
REACHING JODHPUR
By Air:  Jodhpur airport is located in the cantonment area. It is well connected with the metropolitan cities in India through direct flights.
By Rail:  Jodhpur Railway Station is located on station road and come sunder the Northern railway network of India. It is directly connected with the major cities in India like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and other cities.

UDAIPUR
Udaipur also known as the City of Lakes, is a city, a Municipal Council and the administrative headquarters of, the Udaipur district in the state of Rajasthan in western India. It is the historic capital of the former kingdom of Mewar in Rajputana Agency. Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar in this city are considered some of the most beautiful lakes in the state. It is known for its Rajput-era palaces. The Lake Palace, for instance, covers an entire island in the Pichola Lake.
 Lake Palace
The most enchanting tourist attraction of Udaipur, the Lake Palace (also known as Jag Niwas) is a beautiful island palace built by Maharana Jagat Singh II in 1754. Situated on picturesque Lake Pichola, the white marble structure appears like emerging out of the shimmering blue waters on the lake, creating a spellbound effect on visitors.
 City Palace
It is situated on a promontory on the picturesque Lake Pichola. The complex has 11 beautiful Mahals (palaces) with balconies and towers, offering a breathtaking view of the lake and the city. Its Durbar Hall, which had been used as a venue for formal occasions like state banquets and meetings, has most luxurious interiors highlighted by some of the largest chandeliers in the world. The Palace also houses a Museum exhibiting a rich collection of artifacts.
 Jag Mandir
Jag Mandir is another beautiful island palace on Lake Pichola, built by Maharaja Karan Singh in 1615 AD. The palace once sheltered the Mughal prince Khurram (later Emperor Shah Jehan, who built the world-famous Taj Mahal) who rebelled against his father Jehangir in the 1620's. The Palace has a giant stone sculpture of elephants and an impressive chattri (cenotaphs) that add to its beauty.
 Saheliyon-Ki- Bari
The Saheliyon-ki-Bari Garden was built in early 18th century AD as a retreat for ladies of the royal household to spend their time in leisure. The enchantingly beautiful Garden is famous for its lotus pool, fountains (in the shape of birds), lush green lawns, flowerbeds, and marble pavilions, offering a breathtaking view to visitors.
REACHING UDAIPUR
By Air :  Debock Airport is 24 km from the city centre, Dairy Indian Airliness flights connect Udaipur with Jodhpur Jaipur aurangbad, Mumbai and Delhi.

AJMER
Ajmer formerly written Ajmere, is a city in Ajmer District in India's Rajasthan state. Ajmer is a very beautiful city, surrounded by the spectacular Aravalli Mountains. Ajmer, also known as Ajaymeru, was the city once ruled by Prithviraj Chauhan. Its population was approximately 500,000 in 2001. The city gives its name to Ajmer district, and also to a former province of British India called Ajmer-Merwara, which, after India's independence, became the state of Ajmer. On November 1, 1956, it was merged into Rajasthan state.

 Taragarh Fort
The 7th century Taragarh Fort (Star Fort) was built by Ajaipal Chauhan, the founder of the city of Ajmer. Perched on a high hill, the fort offers a breathtaking view of Ajmer city
 Ana Sagar Lake
It was built between 1135-1150 AD by damming the river Luni. This artificial lake is bounded by hills and on its bank is a beautiful park - the Daulat Bagh, making this place one fine spot for strolling in the morning and evening.
 Adhai-din-ka-jhonpra
It is a remarkable structure, a masterpiece of Indo-Islamic architecture located on the outskirts, of the city, just beyond the Dargah. As the legend goes, its construction took two and a half days (Adhai-Din) to complete.
REACHING AJMER
By Air:  The nearest airport is Jaipur, which is 135 kms away.
By Rail:  Ajmer is located on the main Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad-Mumbai line. Most of the trains on this route stop at Ajmer. There is a daily Shatabdi Express from Delhi to Ajmer.
By road:  Ajmer can be easily reached by road from both Jaipur and Delhi. It is a nine-hour road-trip from Delhi to Ajmer.
Travel in Ajmer:  There are city bus services, which operate in the city and to Pushkar. Unmetered taxis, auto-rickshaws, tongas, and cycle-rickshaws are also available.
